Sean E Noonan DDS

Clinical Assistant Professor

Dr. Sean Noonan serves as a part-time clinical faculty member in the Department of Restorative Dentistry and Comprehensive Care, a role he has held since the fall of 2023. Before transitioning to part-time, he was an assistant professor in the department from 2010 to 2023. During his appointment, Dr. Noonan served as Director of the Clinical Restorative Dentistry Course Series and as team leader for clinical progression of the dental students. He also acted as a global liaison representing his department to the Associate Dean of Clinical Affairs and Curriculum. Additionally, he contributed to several Pitt Dental Medicine committees, including the Infection Control Committee, the Quality, Measurement, and Improvement Committee, and the Admissions Committee. Lastly, Dr. Noonan served on the Instrument and Material Selection Committee. He created instructional material cards backed by evidence-based dentistry (EBD) to use as references for students on the clinic floor in the Restorative, Periodontics, Endodontics, and Prosthodontics Departments.

In 2005, he graduated from the University of Maryland School of Dentistry. Following graduation, he served in the United States Air Force prior to accepting a part-time position at the University of Pittsburgh School of Dental Medicine in 2009. Here, he worked as a clinical faculty member in both the Department of Restorative Dentistry and the Center for Patients with Special Needs. In 2010, he transitioned to a full-time role as an assistant professor while also practicing one day a week at the University Dental Health Services faculty practice.

Outside of the dental school, Dr. Noonan remains dedicated to service as a Lieutenant Colonel in the United States Air Force Reserves.
