When should I apply?

As early as possible. Although applications are accepted until October 31st, we strongly suggest applying prior to September.

What documents do I need to send?

All documents should be submitted directly to AADSAS with the exception of the University application fee.

Where can I pay my non-refundable supplemental application fee?

Pay your non-refundable $75 supplemental application fee

How are applications processed?

Applications are processed by the Pitt Dental Medicine Office of Student Affairs and are then presented to the Admissions Committee. This committee comprises faculty, alumni and upper-level student representatives. Careful review of applications is ongoing as applicant files are received. Consideration is given only to candidates who have submitted a completed AADSAS application and University application fee.

How can I improve my application for next cycle if I reapply?

The University of Pittsburgh School of Dental Medicine receives numerous applications during the application cycle. An applicant who has not received an offer of admission is welcome to reapply during any subsequent application cycle.
To improve your application, please consider the following:

  • Submit your application early.
  • Post-baccalaureate courses can improve your undergraduate GPA.
  • Obtaining a master's degree also can improve your application.
  • Gain more experience by volunteering and shadowing within the dental profession.
  • Retake the DAT after sufficient preparation or a prep course.

Applicants must reapply through AADSAS and must include all updated documentation, letters of recommendation and application fees.

How can I schedule a tour of Pitt Dental Medicine?

In fairness to all applicants, no personal meeting or tour will be given during the application cycle. Tours and meetings are scheduled by invitation only. Applicants will receive a tour of the facilities on the day of their interview. Periodically, open houses are scheduled. Contact us to find out the dates and times we have available for this year.

Is there a personal interview?

A personal interview is a requirement for admission. The admissions committee will send selected applicants an interview invitation, however, an interview invitation does not guarantee acceptance. Interviews occur on selected Mondays.

Are there research opportunities for students?

Yes. We have many opportunities for student research, including the Dean's Summer Research Program, which provides a three-month summer research experience for incoming first professional dental students each year. Check out these other research opportunities.

Do you have a simulation clinic?

The University of Pittsburgh School of Dental Medicine introduces predoctoral students to the practice of dentistry in a simulated learning environment. The simulation clinic provides 80 student workstations that are fully equipped with closed circuit video monitors, dental units, operatory lights, computers and simulated patients. This modern facility provides an ideal interactive environment for instructors and students.
