Dr. Suvendra Vijayan is an Assistant Professor (Oral and Maxillofacial Radiology) in the Department of Diagnostic Sciences and serves as Director of 3D Printing and Advanced Technologies in the Offices of Academic and Clinical Affairs. Dr. Vijayan completed his Bachelor of Dental Surgery (B.D.S.) from Mahatma Gandhi Post Graduate Institute of Dental Sciences, India in 2009. He graduated with a Master’s in Public Health from The University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston School of Public Health in 2012. After graduation he worked as a Data Management Analyst at the University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston School of Biomedical Informatics in research involving student retention and attrition, and educational methodologies. He graduated from The University of Iowa College of Dentistry and Dental Clinics in 2018 with a Certificate in Oral and Maxillofacial Radiology and a Master’s in Oral Sciences.
He is currently the course director for predoctoral Introduction to Radiology Physics and Basic Interpretation course.
Dr. Vijayan’s research interest includes cone beam CT, 3D printing, AI/machine learning, digital dentistry, informatics, segmentation, 3D modeling, bone quality assessment, pattern and texture analysis, dental education, and image processing and analysis.
He is a member of the ADA Standards Committee on Dental Informatics (SCDI) working groups on Digital Imaging, Research Applications in Dentistry, and Dental Information Systems Security and Safeguards. He also servers as reviewer for Oral Surgery, Oral Medicine, Oral Pathology and Oral Radiology, Dentomaxillofacial Radiology, Journal of Dental Research, Journal of Dental Education, Journal of Prosthodontics, Journal of California Dental Association, Special Care in Dentistry, and Oral and Maxillofacial Radiology Interactive Resource Center.
