Sara E Ruby

Clinical Assistant Professor

Dr. Sara Ruby grew up in the suburbs of Pittsburgh and attended the University of Pittsburgh where she earned her bachelor’s degree in biological sciences. She knew she had an interest in dentistry from an early age and assisted many dentists before starting her career in dentistry at the University of Pittsburgh, School of Dental Medicine, earning her Doctor of Dental Medicine (DMD) degree in 2004.  

 After dental school, Dr. Ruby completed a General Practice Residency (GPR) at The Ohio State University College of Dentistry and University Medical Center in 2005. After practicing general dentistry for 12 years, she then returned to Pitt Dental Medicine in 2016 to obtain specialty training in pediatric dentistry and completed her research project in infant oral health. Dr. Ruby has experience treating infants, children, adolescents, and special needs patients – all populations who require a great deal of care, patience, and heart alongside of this specialized training.  

 In addition to being board certified with the American Board of Pediatric Dentistry, she is an clinical associate professor in the University of Pittsburgh School of Dental Medicine Pediatric Department.  Dr. Ruby is an active member in the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry, American Dental Association, Pennsylvania Dental Association, Dental Society of Western Pennsylvania, the Pennsylvania Academy of General Dentistry, and a Fellow in the American Academy of General Dentistry. She attends numerous continuing education classes throughout the year to keep up with the changes or updates in dentistry and to stay connected to other dental professionals.  

In her spare time, Dr Ruby enjoys spending time with her family, two young daughters, and goldendoodle, Rose. She also loves going to Pittsburgh sporting events, concerts, and traveling.
