Samer Zaky, DMD, PhD, is a research assistant professor at the Center for Craniofacial Regeneration (CCR) and the Department of Oral and Craniofacial Sciences. In 2000, Dr. Zaky received his original bachelor's degree in dental medicine and surgery from the University of Alexandria -Egypt where he was first introduced to tissue engineering research. Awarded a Marie Curie Fellowship (FP6), he earned his PhD in tissue engineering and regenerative medicine in 2009 from the University of Genoa- Italy. In 2015, he received his DMD degree from the University of Pittsburgh School of Dental Medicine to couple clinical work to his research.
Dr. Zaky’s research broadly tackles the characterization of multipotent cells and conductive biomaterials for mineralized tissue regeneration, namely bones and teeth while re-establishing the stem cell niche. His current research interest focusses on dental pulp regeneration. As a dentist, Dr. Zaky is a general practitioner who strongly advocates for disease prevention and patient education.
