Dr. Michael Parenti joined the Pitt Dental Medicine as a clinical assistant professor in the Department of Prosthodontics in January 2022
After graduating from the University of Pittsburgh School of Dental Medicine in 1983, he joined a well-established multi-generational family general dental practice in Erie County, Pa., and practiced there for more than 31 years. From 2015-2021 Dr. Parenti was a full-time assistant professor of restorative dentistry at the outreach clinic of a Florida-based dental school in Erie training fourth year dental students in all disciplines of clinical dentistry. While there, he also was responsible for dental lab quality assurance and facilitated several interprofessional education experiences with dental, medical and pharmacy students.
Dr. Parenti earned the Fellowship award from the Academy of General Dentistry (FAGD) in 2018 and completed the requirements for AGD Mastership, receiving his MAGD award in July 2022. Membership in the Academy of General Dentistry (AGD) demonstrates a strong professional commitment to learning, growing, and staying current with new trends in dentistry. Only 2% of general dentists have earned their Mastership. Nominated by his peers for his professional ethics and integrity, Dr. Parenti was awarded a Fellowship in the American College of Dentists in 2020. He also is a life-member of the American Dental Association where he has volunteered on survey panels for the ADA.
In May 2024, Dr. Parenti assumed the role of Erie, Pa., Site Coordinator for the Pitt School of Dental Medicine Center for Continuing Dental Education.
Dr. Parenti has volunteered for multiple Mission of Mercy events held in both Erie and Pittsburgh, as well as some Remote Area Medical (RAM) clinics to provide no-cost dental care to underserved people in Western Pennsylvania. He continues to be active as financial secretary and website administrator at his home church and also sings in the Erie Philharmonic Chorus with his wife.
