Dr. Ildeu Andrade Jr. earned his orthodontic certificate and his master`s degree in 2002 from Marquette University. He earned his PhD (2007) in cellular biology from the Federal University of Minas Gerais, Brazil.
Dr. Ildeu Andrade Jr. has served as associate professor and program director of the Department of Orthodontics at the Medical University of South Carolina (MUSC), in Charleston, SC. Before joining MUSC, he was an associate professor and head of the Craniofacial Team at the Pontifical Catholic University (PUC) of Minas Gerais, Brazil, where he earned his DDS. He maintained a private practice in his hometown of Belo Horizonte for over 20 years. Dr. Andrade is a diplomate of the American Board of Orthodontics and the Brazilian Board of Orthodontics. He is an active member of the Edward H. Angle Society of Orthodontics, where he serves in the Study Committee of the Midwest Component. He has been deeply involved in clinical and experimental research for over 20 years. He has authored numerous articles in well-respected dental and medical scientific periodicals, and also book chapters.
Dr. Andrade has received many important awards, such as the Unilever Hatton Divisional Award, from the Brazilian Society of Dental Research (SBPqO) in recognition of the best experimental research at the 2016 Annual Meeting of the SBPqO, and the Wayne G. Watson Award in 2013, from the American Journal of Orthodontics and Dentofacial Orthopedics (AJODO) in recognition of the best biological or experimental paper published in 2012 at AJODO. Dr. Andrade is also the Associate Editor of the Dental Press Journal of Orthodontics, the scientific periodical of the Brazilian Association of Orthodontists, and Peer Reviewer of well-respected periodicals.
