Dr. Goodwin is an assistant professor in the Department of Orthodontics and Dentofacial Orthopedics. Dr. Goodwin treats patients in the orthodontic practice, teaches orthodontic residents, and runs her basic research lab. She completed the combined DDS/PhD program in Oral & Craniofacial Sciences at the University of California, San Francisco (UCSF) School of Dentistry. She pursued her residency in orthodontics at UCSF as well and is a Diplomat of the American Board of Orthodontics. She began her faculty career at UCSF in 2018 and transitioned to Pitt in 2023.
Dr. Goodwin’s research focus is on understanding the biology underlying craniofacial anomalies. Specifically, she studies secondary palate, mandible, and temporomandibular joint (TMJ) development utilizing mouse models in order to understand normal morphogenesis and what goes wrong in pathogenesis such as cleft palate and TMJ disorders with the ultimate goal of improving therapies for patients.
