Involvement in the Community

Community service activities provide the opportunities for dental hygiene students to give back to the community by participating in Allegheny County’s Head Start and Sealant Programs; health fairs; and dental health presentations at local elementary, middle and high schools. Dental Hygiene students also visit the Veterans Administration Hospital to provide oral hygiene services to veterans in an outpatient hospital setting.

Pitt Dental Hygiene students and Maxi Molar, shown above, visit local elementary and middle schools with the Allegheny County Health Department Dental Team to educate 2nd and 6th graders about the value of dental sealants. Classroom education includes PowerPoint presentation and demonstration with student interaction.
