The School of Dental Medicine is always looking for additional alumni and dental professionals to join us in providing mentoring and shadowing opportunities to students. Several resources are available to connect prospective and current students with alumni and dental professinals.
Bridging and Bonding Beyond Dentistry
The goal of this program is to help prospective and current Pitt Dental students develop mentoring opportunities with Pitt Dental Medicine alumni in an effort to build relationships and embrace diversity and inclusion in its broadest definition.
Beginning every February, Pitt Dental Medicine alumni and friends host a group of students and enjoy a Pitt Dental Medicine Family Dinner. Meals can range from home cooked to catered to restaurant style. We encourage you to host at least 2 students and some alumni have teamed up to co-host students. These meals provide alumni with the opportunity to focus not only on dentistry, but engage students by discussing similar expereiences ranging from being a first-generation dentist, business owner or associate, and/or underrepresent student. At the end of the year, mentors and students attend the Bridging and Bonding Beyond Dentistry Reception to celebrate and reflect on their connections established within the past year.
Please sign up to be a mentor or mentee by completing this form and we will be in contact with you. Students who sign up will be emailed Mentoring News about Bridging and Bonding Beyond Dentistry opportunities and events.
Mentoring events are scheduled throughout the year. If you are interested in joining one of the mentoring events, please email Nancy Poe, or call her at 412-648-8910.
We often receive requests from dental students and pre-dental students to shadow a dentist and would like to maintain a list of local dentists willing to allow students to visit their office. Dentists: please email Nancy Poe, or call her at 412-648-8910 if you are interested.
Students: We are in the process of updating our shadowing resources and will post information as local dentists volunteer.
